About the Charity
Established in 2003, Parivaar is a humanitarian organization inspired by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, with the motto that changing the destinies of children will change the destiny of India. Through its model of Seva Kutirs, Parivaar has worked towards the total care and overall development of children who are highly vulnerable to exploitation, victimization and trafficking, including orphans, street children, abandoned, and extremely impoverished children from tribal areas. In West Bengal, Parivaar has two residential educational institutions, with over 2,200 resident children. In Madhya Pradesh, it has established 167 Seva Kutirs i.e. Meal-cum-Education centres, with more than 16,000 children getting two nutritious meals along with strong supplementary education and life-skills over morning and evening shifts.
Parivaar’s Seva Kutir Program in MP is among the largest nutrition and learning-acceleration programs in rural and tribal India. It addresses the two major problems of malnutrition and low-quality education, faced by tribal children. The Seva Kutir model involves providing a nutritious breakfast and dinner to the children, along with educational sessions covering life-skills. Activities at the Kutirs are monitored by co-ordinators who visit daily. Educational progress is measured through conducting tests and progress of the child at his/her school. For health and growth progress, weight and height are regularly monitored. Parivaar co-ordinates with local government health officers and doctors for regular check-ups in case of any illness. Seva Kutirs have become a catalyst for change, and the villages where they have been established are gradually undergoing a complete transformation.
