About the Charity
About Bhagini Nivedita Gramin Vigyan Niketan: Bhagini Nivedita Gramin Vigyan Niketan (BNGVN) was founded by Nilima Mishra in 2000 with the sole purpose of empowering villagers to become self- sustainable. It is now a 20,000-women strong initiative for creating savings, livelihood and availing loans through Self Help Groups. Climatic conditions in the surrounding areas of BNGVN are always imbalanced and unpredictable. This leads to poor yield and reduces the income from farming. Considering this scenario, efforts have been taken to bring women into the main stream of society and empowering them through small scale businesses and initiatives.
Bahina BNGVN has established a new group called “Bahina”, which produces and sells pickles and spices. The objectives of this project are to increase the production of their pure food products by using advanced technology thereby creating employment opportunities, strengthening the rural economy and controlling migration from villages. When women bring additional income to their households, they earn the respect of their families as well as from society. This helps them in joining the main stream of society. YVO’s contribution to Bhagini Nivedita Gramin Vigyan Niketan: The cost of purchasing the various machines along with transportation and administrative expenses is around Rs.9 Lacs. YVO intends to channelize the donation received for November 2019 towards the costs associated with this initiative.
