About the Charity
MECT - Malvi Educational & Charitable Trust runs a Gujarat State Board affiliated School 'Shantaba Vidyalaya' with the goal of providing tribal children FREE holistic education withaccess to digital classrooms, computer lab, art, craft, value education, music, sports, a library with diverse books & journals, a toy library, and other amenities that result in personality development. What started with 32 children in 2005 mainly from the Halpati Community (landless labor) accessing a thatched hut that represented a school is now acknowledged as a model institution in South Gujarat that is educating about 501 tribal children currently. MECT also host a residential care center (hostel) 'Vatsalyadham' which currently houses 385 students, including 176 girls which they wish to increase to 500 in 2018-19.
YVO channelized the donation received for the month of January 2018 towards equipping Shantaba Vidyalaya with 2 projector setups for their classes, 1 R.O. Plant for their Bhojanalaya and Kitchen, 20 single beds for their boys hostel, 10 double beds for their girls hostel, 50 reference books for their library and 5 green boards for their tuitions in the hostel. This infrastructure setup with the help of your donation will help impact the lives of about 501 tribal students (age group 4-18 years, i.e. pre-school to higher secondary level) including 236 girls. 40% of these are either orphans or children with single parents and almost all come from broken families.
